How do I relate the hots to the play?( with more details of my question)

what i am trying to ask is how i identify which thinking skill i need so that i can answer the hots questions(questions which requires using those thinking skills), i dont understand them and how they help me and i dont also understand the bridging questions, it would be great is someone answer me because i have an exam thanks
