Why does Quinn’s mom care about how other people view them? How do you think this will play a role in the novel?

Quinn's mother likes to keep up appearances..... to make herself and her family appear different than they actually are. She genuinely cares about her son, but she has difficulty separating caring for Quinn and caring about his reputation. She also has a tendency to use his father's absence against him..... consistently bringing up what his father would think if he was alive.
