What is the power struggle, in the story, Shining Houses by Alice Munro?

The main struggle can be found in Mary's dilemma.... does she support the petition, or does she support Mrs. Fullerton. In the end, she chooses to remain loyal to the woman she respects, rather than to support changes in the community that infringe upon Mrs. Fullerton's life.

Another sturggle can be found in the conflict between tradition and modernity. The majority of the community embraces progress, whereas, Mr. Fullerton continues to embrace her heritage... the history of her home and community.
