Alice Munro: Short Stories

At the end of the story boys and girls, the girl appears to have capitulated and is prepared to accept her stereotyped role as "only a girl." would this classify as a happy ending? justify your position.

I don't know if I would describe it as a happy ending, but the narrator does accept her father's excuse for her, "she's only a girl", which somewhat lets her off the hook. On the other hand, these words are also a final declaration. She cannot follow in her father's footsteps because she is a "girl".
