What problem or dilemma does Jethro face with the return of Eb? How does he manage this? Chapter 8-9

Eb is a deserter from the war and even helping him puts Jethro and family at risk. Jethro tells Eb of the Federal Agents and Eb becomes frightened. He tells Eb to stay hidden in the woods and he will think of some way of helping him. Knowing the wrong of his actions, Jethro keeps him hidden and brings him food to regain strength. Jethro is torn, knowing that if Eb returns, he will go to prison, and if he remains a fugitive, he will have to hide for the rest of his life.
