What is Jethro like?

Jethro Creighton is the youngest of the Creighton children. He is nine-years-old when the story begins. He is hard working, responsible, and caring. Over the course of the novel, we see Jethro tackle the challenge of becoming the man of the household, as he must take care of the family and the farm after his brothers go off to war, and his father falls ill. When we first meet Jethro, he is a naïve, innocent boy. He goes onto become a strong, intelligent man.
