Symbolism:

In Act I, Scene I, Mama tends to a dying plant that "ain't never gonna see spring again." The plant is a symbol for the family's fading chance of a better future.

Allusion:

Beneatha alludes to Jesus in her warning to Walter about his rebellious nature.... she mentions "salt losing its savor".
