UNiCEF, a children's organization affiliated with the UN, take Beah in from being a child soldier. UNiCEF brokers deals with government and rebel forces to take children away from the fighting. They do their best to reintegrate Beah into civilian life. Beah goes to New York and visits the United Nations. Beah realizes that there are many children in different countries who are abused and, like him, used as child soldiers.
