A Long Way Gone

“I still believed in the fragility of happiness” (p. 173). What evidence do you have in the book that happiness, for Beah, will always remain “fragile”? What evidence do you have that happiness for Beah can become more permanent?

After all that he's been through, Beah had a difficult time believing that happiness was possible. Even after his uncle found him, Ishmael noted the "fragility" of happiness...... he was afraid that if he let himself believe that everything would turn out.... his world would once again be torn apart.
