Torvald is a bank manager. This can be seen as an example of irony, as Nora's primary concerns revolve around her previous need for money in a time when her husband was unable to provide for his family's financial welfare. Torvald sees himself as the breadwinner..... his focus. He also sees himself as his family's guardian, both the children's guardian, as well as Nora's.
