Why do Winston and Julia swear to anything except the loss of each other in 1984?

Winston more than Julia is willing to give everything up for even the illusion of a revolution. Still Julia agrees because Winston has awakened in her the beginnings of the dream of change. The one thing that keeps them going to the point of surrendering their own lives is each other.
