Was the fur trade a positive or negative thing for First Nations people?

We can infer that the fur trade brought both positive and negative outcomes. The First Peoples were able to trade for goods they'd never before seen or even dreamed of. Unfortunately, the trade also brought a large number of outsiders into their homeland. The result was sometimes devastating to the indigenous tribes.
