Do donating charity through non-profit organization is beneficial to the local people?

Me and my brother are planning to donate the charity to the orphanage living in Benin. Because of which my aunt recommended me this website http://www.mission-humanitaire-afrique.org for raising funds for the orphans. Do donating through NGO's is beneficial to the people?
