Themes of Isolation, wanting to belong, and insecurity can be found in both narratives. Both books reflect the coming of age genre. Holden is a much darker and complex character than Stargirl and Catcher in the Rye has much greater depth of theme. While the book Stargirl was well received for young adult fiction, Catcher in the Rye is considered a classic of American literature.
