Books are in Alexie's blood. From an early age he used reading as his stimulant; his muse; and his saviour. He could step outside his Spokane reservation to see things in a different perspective rather than becoming the perspective that most Indians felt. Reading and words were Alexie’s tonic that gave him "superman powers" to transcend the world expected of him by society.
