Of Mice and Men

“Curley’s wife came around the end of the last stall. She came very quietly, so that Lennie didn’t see her. She wore her bright cotton dress and the mules with the red ostrich feathers. Her face was made up and the little sausage curls were all in place. She was quite near to him before Lennie looked up and saw her.” p.122 Of Mice and Men - how can I link this to context?

This is directly linked with the loneliness of Curley's wife and the inevitable undoing of Lennie. Curley's wife is so lonely, Steinbeck doesn't even give her a name: she is simply Curley's property. She finds the only person on the ranch that will talk to her. Lennie of course cannot understand the repercussions of such a meeting.
